Webinar: Economics of ecological restoration and hazard fuel reduction treatments

Yeon-Su Kim, School of Forestry at Northern Arizona University discussed a recent report describing the economic efficacy of fuels treatments.

Abstract: What are the economic values of landscape-level ecological restoration and hazardous fuel treatments? The Ecological Restoration Institute at Northern Arizona University assembled a team of wildland fire economists to conduct rapid evidence-based assessment, as well as to design a timely and efficient way to answer the emerging questions. In this webinar, we will explain the underlying complexity of wildfire economics, some of our findings and innovations, not just in addressing the sharp increase in fire suppression costs and damages, but more importantly in enhancing natural resource and ecosystem service values.
