Season of Grass: The Prairie Rejuvenated after a Prescribed Burn
Fire is an important component of the tallgrass prairie ecosystem. Fire removes litter, creates healthy grasslands, improves the habitat for grassland birds and other wildlife, maintains an open prairie landscape free from tree and brush encroachment, and provides high quality forage for livestock and wildlife. Watch the prairie grow following a prescribed burn on the Rannells pasture near Manhattan, Kansas. Produced by the Department of Communications and Agricultural Education at Kansas State University in partnership with Great Plains Fire Science Exchange developed this video in response to requests from the fire community.
